How to Change Internal Zincs on Fourstroke Outboard Motor

Most people don’t know they even have internal zincs on their outboard boat motors. Especially since they are not visible like the typical zinc are that hang off your lower unit.

But if you have a outboard made in the last 10 years or so you may have several internal zincs that prevent internal corrosion of your outboards water passages. Once you know they are there you should at least inspect them to judge their condition. Then you can make the determination if you want to replace them.

My Yamaha 150 Fourstroke has 3 internal zincs that are mounted around the motor block and head. They are very easy to change and below is a video showing how to do it.

Your brand may vary but the procedure is similar for Honda and Suzuki, look at your manual for locations and instructions.
