How to disconnect VRO Pump on Johnson, Evinrude, OMC Outboards

Oil injection is nice on a 2 stroke outboard if it works but if yours has failed and you’re getting an alarm sounding and you don’t want to pay the $660 to get a new VRO system installed you can disconnect it and use pre-mixed gas for free. This video shows you how to do it on a 1996 60hp Johnson outboard. My 1990 70hp was very similar. The wires may be routed different but the principle is the same. The pump alone is $400 so with labor and diagnosis it’s expensive to fix that is optional if you don’t mind premixing.

Pre-mix at 50:1 if you’re going to do this.

I wish OMC did the oil injection like Suzuki and Yamaha, putting the tank under the cowling and making it never fail 🙂 But I digress….
